Saphenous vein
Saphenous vein is a subcutaneous vein on the medial surface of the thigh and leg. It is the upward continuation of the medial metatarsal vein arising from the deep plantar arch.
It runs upwards in the distal part of the leg just anterior to tendo-achilles and is accompanied by the saphenous artery and tibial nerve.
In the proximal part of the leg joins the femoral vein in the femoral canal.
Recurrent tarsal vein
Recurrent tarsal vein is a subcutaneous vein on the lateral surface of the leg and is formed by the dorsal metatarsal vein and the lateral planter metatarsal vein.
It communicates with anterior tibial and saphenous veins.
It ascends and joins the deep femoral or posterior femoral vein.
