- It lacks blood vessels, lymphatic vessels and nerve
- Composition – 80% water,10%collagen,105 proteoglycans.
- Contains – chondrocytes , fibers and ground substance.
Synovial membrane
- Synovial membrane is highly vascular
- Covers all structure within the joints except articular cartilage and menisci.
- Function – phagocytosis
- Synovial fluid production
Synovial fluid
- Synovial fluid is a plasma dialysate+mucoprotein.
- Normal synovial fluid is clear, pale yellow, viscid
- Function – lubrication to reduce friction
- Nutrition to the articular cartilage
- Maintains electrolyte and matabolite balance
- Composition – mucoprotein (hyaluronic acid)
