Classification of Placenta

Classification of Placenta is made by various basis like based on chorionic villi distribution or anatomical, based on the separation between fetal and maternal blood supplies and based on degree of contact between chorionic villi and the endometrium.

Placentas are classified according to:

• Chorionic villi distribution / Anatomical
• Based on the separation between fetal and maternal blood supplies / Microscopic
• Degree of contact between chorionic villi and the endometrium
